Discovering Corolla by Biking.
It’s the best way to roll, when you are in the Outer Banks, visiting Currituck County.
In fact, renting bikes in the Outer Banks just makes good sense, because you can see and experience so much!
Vacation and packing.
There’s just nothing more gratifying than packing a vehicle to the brim with everything you could possibly need for your time away.
Hold that thought.
NOT true at all.
I am about to share with you 3 reasons Outer Banks bike rentals just make good sense!
As an over-packer, I have resolved to take less, rent more, and keep things simple, yet stocked.
Bikes will NEVER be part of what I haul anywhere and definitely not to the Outer Banks.
Our vacation was in Corolla, Currituck County in the Outer Banks.
The company we used for bike rentals and the reservations company made obtaining bikes, sinfully easy.
Why haul bikes up and down the coast, when all you have to do is reserve them and let the rest happen from there?
Now, if you still think packing bikes is a good way to roll down the highways, byways, turnpikes, and ‘shortcut alleys’ read this article!
Trust me, you will save time, and packing headaches!

OUTER BANKS BIKE RENTALS ~ Discovering Corolla by Biking
From The Hills of Pittsburgh To The Flats of Corolla Light!
Both the bikes and reservationists made this while bike rental process easy peasy!
I won’t back a brand I haven’t used.
So if you are looking for a vendor who both delivers and picks up bikes to your beach rental home, try who I used.
Bikes can be either the best or the worst rental ever!
We’ve had both kinds in previous trips, and I am being brutally honest!
My kids are on these bikes and so am I, if they are not safe, with properly inflated tires, well-cared for, I would not use them.
Ours were great, and in colors from orange to yellow and silver too!
Bike Delivery Makes Vacation, a Vacation
Our experience with Stokes Dispensary was outstanding, smooth, and we loved our bikes, which ranged in tire size to Fat Tire (Yeah!) to all-terrain.
Corolla Light is my favorite community in the Outer Banks to date.
In fact, while I am a proponent of Caribbean vacations, both our Brindley Beach Villa and the Corolla Light community rivaled my best vacations and we never left the USA!
So, first, seek out a Brindley Beach Vacation Villa, they’ve got over 250 to choose from in the community.
Next, set your self up with a bike delivery!
While the home had a few bikes, there were not enough for everyone, and not every rental home will have bikes.
Therefore, do your homework ahead and make a reservation with Kitty Hawk Kites to have your bicycles delivered before you arrive.
Can Delivery Of Outer Banks Bike Rentals Be That Easy?
First I wondered how the bikes would magically appear?
Then I learned that after the rentals are vacated and being cleaned, your bike rentals arrive.
Paperwork is done online, as well as payment and just like that Stokes Dispensary delivers them to your new vacation address.
It’s that simple.
You must know the address of your rental and that’s it!
No packing required.
Hauling and Packing – The Joys of Couplehood And Parenting
If you try to tell me that there are no packing fights, I’ll have to laugh in your face.
Every couple experiences a bit of tension before a trip, add kids and possibly extended family into it, and it’s a hot mess.
There’s limited space for most of us traveling and bikes, have to be out of the car, affixed somehow, someway.
Now that’s a fun thing to solve, isn’t it?
Therefore in most cases, they are the last thing to get attached to the vehicle, but what if you want to pack more?
You are stuck because then you have to move the bikes and that is where the fireworks (or tiffs) might begin.
Add into this mess, that you have to purchase a way to haul the bikes, and don’t forget the helmets and maybe locks?
So, now that you have added more weight to the car and more things to worry about when it rains and as you drive down the highway are you calm and ready to drive?
Not so fast.
On the way down, we saw bikes dislodge off a vehicle (or the aftermath of) and it was not pretty!
Hauling and Packing require time and effort, don’t add on more, just rent.
The Biking Paths and Trails In Corolla Light and Surrounding Communities.
Without a doubt, we biked at least 15 miles a day.
After all, Pittsburgh is hill-laden and the Flat Outer Banks in North Carolina are a wicked good treat!
We biked to and from the Currituck Lighthouse almost every day.
Naturally, we also went through other parts of our community.
Out of the Corolla Light Community street, Austin, I pedaled across the street.
There are beautiful beach homes on Dunton to consider for future trips.
Next, we biked straight across Austin Street and onto a nature path that was on the Sound Side.
Here, I spent many treasured mornings.
First, there’s an Osprey’s nest.
Second, the Sound Side’s water level was different each day and the ducks were closer each day.
Next, the pier was a gorgeous way to see the Sound Side in Corolla.
Last, the trail was a bit more challenging for my leg and ab workout, so I pedaled harder.
Biking Through Historic Corolla Park in Currituck.
When I saw Whalehead, I had no idea what it was, but the pristine, natural setting just took my breath away.
Day or night, it just has such a presence and rightfully so with all of its history.
Being honest, I don’t even know if it was open, and my last 2 days of vacation were cut short when my son dislocated, fractured, and had bone pieces requiring surgery.
Naturally, I returned to Pittsburgh for his surgery, immediately.
However, the footbridge caught my attention.
I did not RIDE Over it, but I did walk my bike over it.
Morning on the bridge was spectacular.
The Corolla Historic Village -Discovering Corolla By Biking
Currituck Lighthouse was not OPEN when we were here.
So, after taking some pictures, we headed back down the road towards Corolla Park but turned RIGHT instead.
You will love this ride.
For those that LOVE salads, fresh juice, smoothies, and health eats, The Juice Bar is so close you might miss it on the left-hand side if you don’t explore by bike!
Back, by Portraits on the Beach and Corolla Wild Horse Fund, you’ll find this great little gem!
Then you can bike it all off again, lol!
I also found a hopping little BBQ place back in here, as well as the Corolla Village Market and a busy bookstore!
Had we been in a car, I would not have seen any of this.
Bike, pedal, look and enjoy.
Around Corolla Light Community ~Discovering Corolla by Biking
As a mom, Corolla Light was perfect.
The kids got on their bikes and rode all over, as trails and paths and roads all were discoveryville.
It was a great way to give freedom and feel good about it.
Once they learned their way around there, then they began venturing out to the main road Ocean Trail, using Pedestrian crossing to explore more.
In fact, before we left, they biked back and forth to the local Food Lion for stuff we needed.
The lighted pedestrian and bike paths made for great biking (just be courteous to those walking and biking).
We biked as mentioned to the store and we biked down to the beginning of Carova Beach (no bikes allowed).
Every pedal of the bike afforded us new scenery, different homes to ogle at, and a great outdoor adventure!
Inside Corolla Light & Discovering Corolla by Biking
Since I love looking at homes, and different styles of rentals, riding through our community, allowed me to study the homes.
From outdoor floral displays to fun names of beach homes, I got to see it all, slowly and not driving a car.
Riding behind many houses, between them and through so many different pathways, I got to experience and discover at my own pace.
Traffic is really minimal in Corolla Light community, as once you are parked unless you are driving OUT of the community for an outing or groceries, you really don’t use your car.
Right where Austin Drive meets North Carolina 12 you’ll find a pizza shop, a mini-market, a bakery, a bar, and a bbq pickup!
Drive your bike over in the morning and experience the fun!
We lived on Bodie Court, so it was really close, but no matter the road you are on, Hatteras Ct., Ocracoke Ct., Franklyn Street, Morris Dr., Villa Ct. etc, it’s easily accessible by bike!
There’s also a hot dog place I am sure your kids will love and all they have to do is bike within the Corolla Light Community!
Family Adventures & Discovering Corolla By Biking
No matter the time of day, people bike.
During the day there were families biking, and after dinner too.
Scads of people, but there’s always plenty of room, and plenty of destinations to find without biking in to anyone!
Early morning, when I biked solo, as the kids slept, there were more parents out than kids.
Conversely, after dinner, flocks of people on bikes, because it is fun, allows discovery, gets you there without packing in a car and it’s FLAT!
Eat, enjoy the vacation, and pedal it off!
Bike to the Grass Course Miniature Golf directly across from the Brindley Beach Vacation and Sales Office.
You’ll also find another ice creamery here about 3 miles up by the Food Lion.
It’s not far, once you pedal and sidewalks/paths are all available, so no worry about the roads.
Also, you can shop at SUPER WINGS if you ride your bike that far as well.
We did this too, just wear a backpack to stow your purchases.
Outer Banks Bike Rentals Make Just Make Good Sense After Too!
We Are Done With Our Vacation – Pack Up & PickUp Please.
The week blew by, and you are sunburned, rested, and out of beer and wine!
It’s time to go home right?
Empty the trash, reset the fridge, the air conditioner, and pack up all your stuff.
How come when you came down everything fit nicely and now you are crammed to the ceiling?
Now it is just time to pack it up and get out.
But, don’t forget the bikes you hauled.
For those that heeded this advice, all you have to do is leave your bikes outside and Stokes Dispensary picks them up.
No packing, no worries, just drive away!
