It seems like yesterday that we moved on into our home and really it was less than 9 years ago, but things need changed. One room in our home as in many others that really gets a workout is the bathroom. The thing that always has bothered me about this bathroom is that it is right off of the kitchen and the fixtures in it were nothing special. We decided to do one of those famous Casa Vento renovations.
The bathroom off the kitchen, the ‘powder room’ had a toilet that clogged frequently, a flushing hinge that was replaced, a toilet seat that had been tightened more times than I care to remember and the most recent issue: A hot water sink handle that was not functionable.
We decided to do an incredible bathroom renovation, the kind of bathroom renovation that when you leave the bathroom door open, people just HAVE to look because it looks that amazing. We chose our favorite brand of bathroom fixtures and went work. Lavishly live the diy of our incredible bathroom renovation in Casa Vento.
IT’S ALL ABOUT THE SPACE
When you renovate an existing bathroom, it is about making it more functional and using the space better. When I look at our old bathroom, we had no storage, and we had a pretty open wall. The toilet was basic, without any nice edges or solid hardware (flushing mechanism) .
Here is Michael’s overview on the scope of our project: Casa Vento Incredible Bathroom Renovation
I do not even need to go into this too much other than the toilet was less than appropriate for an adult backside, and there was NO storage in the bathroom. A pedestal sink may look pretty but it does not function well for a family of five or guests when you need to store cleaning products and fresh hand towels. It’s out with the old and in with the new.
There really is just no comparison. Look at our old toilet and now look at the new. First, look at the structures. On the left, it is a basic toilet. There is not a sleek look of anything that defines it. The KOHLER Memoirs Toilet defines the space with rectangular tank top, and a lovely rectangular and line inset base. The OVAL space for sitting is generously appointed and please look at the trip LEVER which is oil-rubbed bronze and STURDY. The tank itself is the strength to the look as it uses its lines to define the space. The color is dune.
The toilet is a one piece toilet that has both the bowl and tank. The strength of the presentation and the comfort is where you sit:) Our gallons per flush are 1.28 and fyi, the seat is Glenbury Quiet-Close seat with Quick-Release. The deal here is simple, no more slamming toilet seats when the kids use the bathroom, it is not going straight down (LOVE This)
Let’s talk flushing and because I am real with things, this might be a little graphic, but the power of a flush is a beautiful thing. The single-flush gravity on this totally siphons during flushing so when you get one of those less than illustrous moments where you ‘gotta go’ and it’s not solid, you will totally appreciate the power of the single flush! It’s all in the “AquaPiston canister allows water to flow into the bowl from all sides (360 degrees), increasing the power and effectiveness of the flush.”
The Sink & Storage
The old and the new, is there really even a comparison? Meet the Tresham Vanity and what I tend to refer to as my all-in-one storage unit. I love the solid look of the vanity, the presentation of the sink, it truly epitomizes ‘The Bold Look of KOHLER’ if you want my opinion.
The Corner space posed a true challenge because I could not go as LARGE as I wanted to and we actually fit this in from corner to corner with no room to spare. The Artifacts column lavatory spout, and Artifacts swing handles are what finish the bold look, leaving it timeless and sleek.
The door is double-paneled and has plenty of storage for not only the plumbing which is housed in there (keep that in mind), but also towels, wipes and and extra toilet paper. This piece took the renovation from good to Great.
Lighting & Mirrors
It’s not just about the bathroom fixtures, but the bathroom accessories. A well-defined space, defines it space. As you can tell I went from oval and small, to more BOLD with sleek defining lines of rectangular descent. I did this to FILL the space and define it. The room is small, but it appears larger with the right color combination as well as fixtures. A small oval sink replaced with a rectangular, deeper bowl and awesome handles that provide strength to the lines.
The lighting plays a key role in the appearance as does the mirror. Let the photo speak for itself, but let me provide you the names of the accessories so you can ‘get the look’
Marabou Mirror, Artifacts TP Carriage (yes we know we hung it differently), Devonshire double sconce, Artifacts towel ring.
PAINT & FLOOR
We also changed the floor to ceramic of a neutral tone, as well as the paint. I darkened the paint to a more rich taupe in order to embellish the oil-rubbed bronze fixture pieces. We purchased light plate switches too coordinate the look and you can see them in the mirror versus the old white ones. This brought the look together.
Get The Look
If you want to create the look that we have I am going to list the pieces out for you. Hit me up with any questions, as we are pretty good at bathroom renovation and we have 2 more on the way. I will provide the name and search number so you can use either on the site. Remember these are the specific color choices I chose, so you have other options from the faucets to the fixtures.

I am all about the style and the look. We have had countless people in our home to work on different things and they all stop to look at the sink (which is what catches their eye) . The handles define the look and that is the start of a conversation. We love our BOLD look of KOHLER and have a few more projects ready to share with you. Stay tuned as Casa Vento renovation is underway.
