Our Car Spring Safety And Cleaning Overview
Let’s restore your vehicle a bit after the shameful winter weather.
Look at your car and focus on the areas that will make the biggest impact when cleaned up in the least amount of time.
Do you know which areas to focus on when spring cleaning your car?
Start by looking at the sun shining through those dirty windows and salt-ridden cars. Are you ready to clean them up?
But we are not stopping there; let’s begin with a quick car safety review and move on from there.
Spring Car Safety Tips
When it comes to getting behind the wheel of a car, safety is everything, and our car Spring safety and cleaning includes this section to remind you about these 2 very important topics for your safety!
Tire Pressure
You’ll want to invest in a decent digital tire pressure gauge because those check tire lights come on often.
What possible reasons cause the tire pressure light to illuminate on your car’s dashboard?
- warm to cool weather can wreak havoc on tire pressure, especially on really cold nights
- hitting potholes (like in Pittsburgh)
- scraping curbs when pulling in places
- you could have a hole in the tread of the tire
- Maybe your tire has a poor seal
- Or has your tire never been inflated since you bought the car?
- your tires are more worn with less tread
You’ve got to keep your tires inflated properly because you run the risk of accidents, which no one wants to get into.
For instance, what if your tires are under-inflated you will use more fuel, which will cost you more money due to the expense and pain at the pumps that seems unending.
Uneven tire pressure can affect car handling; it can damage the suspension and cause a lot of other problems which cost you money.
I’ve actually got a whole article dedicated to digital tire pressure gauges, you might want to review that as well.
Spring Car Safety Tips: Tires And Tread
Do you know that if you overinflate your tires, you increase the chance of hydroplaning?
If you hydroplane, you can create damage to your car, yourself, and others and it is possible that others can make a legal claim for an auto accident caused by hydroplaning and create a huge expense you don’t want to get entangled with.
I’ve got a whole article dedicated to tire tread and wear.
What Reasons Could You Hydroplane And Cause Accidents?
- lack of tread on your tires
- Speeding in rainy, puddling conditions with a lack of tread or tread on tires
- weaving in and out of traffic with excellent or bad tire tread and hydroplaning
Spring Cleaning Car Maintenance
Open the car doors and the trunk or cargo area of your vehicle.
Let the breeze pass through, but make sure you don’t have papers that can blow out creating litter debris.
Use a laundry basket and a garbage bag to quickly unload your trunk and all of the floors and seats of garbage and clothing.
The Mats
First, take the mats out of the car and shake them.
Then, spray them with some dawn detergent and let them sit for a minute while you continue to collect each mat and spray them.
Next, spray each of them off and if needed use a brush to scrub and remaining debris; spray them off again, and allow them to dry off in the sun while you continue cleaning.
Spray them off and let the sun dry them
The Carpeted Areas
Vacuum out the carpeted areas, and wipe off the seats.
Move to the trunk/cargo space and give it a quick vacuum as well, sucking up any smaller debris that you couldn’t physically grab and toss out.
The Trim + Dashboard
Wipe the trim and dashboard with a microfiber towel, dampened enough to clean anything off the dashboard, and use a bit of dawn for the door tracks and interior handles.
Replace Items To Their Places
Replace whatever needs to be back in the trunk/cargo area
- shopping bags
- athletic shoes
- gym bags
- blankets
- stadium seats
- umbrellas
- scrapers
- strollers
Close the trunk and move on to reattaching car seats where necessary and making sure the seats are all upright.
Remember as part of your spring car safety tips make sure you attach those car seats and carriers properly, so double-check what you lock in.
The Windows
As part of your spring cleaning car maintenance, make sure to clean the dashboard windows using a microfiber cloth and a bit of rubbing alcohol.
Your windows should be smog free, after you wipe them off and while you are wiping the front window, make sure to pass the cloth over the rearview mirror and the dashboard; you’ll feel better doing this!
