Nutritional Supplements: What They Are Not
I’ve never read an article on dietary supplements without scrutinizing the nutritional supplements that were being suggested and how they actually might help me, and I advise you do the same.
After all, if helping your lifestyle to become healthier was just about popping a few nutritional supplements, everyone would be doing it.
Dietary supplements are trending as many believe that popping a supplement will make up the difference for their body’s lack.
However, this is not the case, as nutritional supplements are more of an additional component of your lifestyle.
You’ll want to take the Quiz to see what you need to do to improve your eating lifestyle here.
Dietary supplements don’t solve our bad eating habits.
3 reasons dietary supplements Are Helpful To You
- can help create a well-balanced diet
- potentially fill in the gaps of nutritional values you are missing
- Support your healthy lifestyle
But they are not. No supplement is lightning in a bottle, which means you must do your part and commit to better eating and sleeping patterns.
In other words, when you try to reboot your eating habits and add accessories, you suddenly create a diet that has nutritional value.
Mixtures of a well-balanced diet with the right dietary supplements are the gold standard for our bodies.
What Are Dietary Supplements?
I use dietary supplements regularly, as so many of you do, but did you know that so many of us participate in bad eating habits which don’t allow our bodies to absorb the nutrients we need?
Not having all the nutrients, minerals, vitamins, and herbs we need can impair our body’s ability to absorb these from the foods we eat. Thus we need to supplement our diet.
Supplements Come In Different Forms
Did you know that supplements come in different forms: liquid, powder, pill, or bars?
This makes taking a supplement a personal choice for each person using them and gives variety.
Different Forms Of Supplements Include:
- vitamins
- minerals
- herbs
All or any of these might be the nutrients your body needs to function optimally. (again, speak with your doctor to fill in the gaps and get advice on what you need)
Each of these is ingested by mouth and may add nutritional value to our daily diet.
However, taking these daily is hardly a substitute for a well-balanced, healthy diet.
Instead, supplements you take to complement your current diet are meant to enhance our good food choices and help add back the vitamins, nutrients, minerals, and herbs we lack.

Reasons We Need To Take Dietary Supplements
Bad eating habits lead to our body’s inability to absorb the much-needed nutrients, minerals, and vitamins we should be getting.
Never believe a perfect diet exists because no one has that ideal one.
We all need to fill in the missing components as we go.
Dietary Supplements add nutritional value to our everyday diets.
It is essential to have all the necessary vitamins, minerals, and nutrients in our diets so that our bodies function at their maximum potential.
My favorite parallel between nutrients, vitamins, and minerals is comparing your body to a car.
If you give your car the cheapest gas, don’t change the oil on time, and don’t rotate the tires, it may function temporarily, but day by day, it begins to diminish in its ability to perform.
When you give your car the care it needs, oil changes, good gas, and tire rotation, you get optimum performance from it.
This is precisely how vitamins, nutrients, and minerals work.
Other Ways To Gain Essential Vitamins, Nutrients, and Minerals into your Daily Lifestyle
Consume Spinach
Spinach is rich in iron and easy to make use of.
The great thing about spinach is that you can put it in just about any meal and barely notice it’s there.
Whether you throw it on top of a pizza or add it to a spaghetti bolognese, it won’t change the taste of your meal.
Why not fry up some slices of chicken and add spinach for the last three minutes of cooking?
Add some pomegranate seeds and place small amounts into some wraps for lunch. You can even add spinach to your favorite smoothie recipe.
Consume More Beef
Beef is an excellent source of iron so if you’re running low, there’s nothing quite as good as diving into a succulent burger.
However, there are tons of ways to get creative with beef.
From homemade meatballs to a beef casserole or even a slow cooker cube steak recipe.
If you’re cooking a steak at home, try and opt for rare to medium rare when cooking it.
It’s a great way to ensure you still get all the nutrients available from the meat.
Try Seafood For Lunch
Fish is a great option for lunch.
Fish like salmon, haddock, and tuna are easy to whip up for lunch at the office.
For example, a tuna salad or a bagel with salmon and cream cheese is ideal for getting an energy boost for the afternoon and maintaining good iron levels.
However, you might want to refrain from eating fish in common areas (and not on airplanes when traveling) when you’re at work. It’s not the most pleasant of smelling lunches.
Cook and Dress Your Meals and Foods In Extra Virgin Olive Oil
When you cook meals, avoid cooking in sunflower or vegetable oils.
A good quality olive oil will help you to avoid stripping the ingredients of vitamins and nutrients you want to keep in your meal and provide healthy fats.
It also helps to keep the flavor in your ingredients so your meal tastes as good as it can.
If you’re eating cold food, like salads, olive oil can make a fantastic dressing too.
It can help to lock in flavors and it’s packed with nutrients good for your body and skin.
Now You Have An Overview Of Dietary Supplements
There are so many choices available regarding dietary supplements, so I advise speaking with your doctor or health professional before making any purchases.
You must understand what nutritional supplements will best benefit your lifestyle and body. Dietary supplements play an important role in wellness.
Remember, there are no perfect diets, and these supplements can fill those diet gaps.
Start taking care of yourself by using dietary supplements, following a healthier diet, increasing exercise,` and getting plenty of rest.
Life is busy, so give your all by taking care of yourself first, then everything after!
