Where there are great vacation spots, there is generally great food! A very popular vacation destination known for its gastronomy is Southern Delaware. You can pretty much rest assured that the food will be good in those popping beach areas like Rehoboth, Dewey, Lewes, and Bethany Beach is gonna be delish no matter where you eat.
We always seek out at least one place for pizza, one that’s a bit more ‘upscale’, and of course the comfy spot that is usually pretty trendy and perfect for every age! Without a doubt, I found one of everything on my checklist!
In fact, on a recent trip, we ate at a few of the local faves. Honestly, after just 3 days, we came up with 5 great eateries in Southern Delaware to share with you. Let’s travel, eat, adventure and repeat, that is what vacation is about!
5 Great Eateries In Southern Delaware
Best of Crab Cakes (1) – Eatery
I love me a good crab cake, but they are sure hard to find. So many restaurants by the beaches we have gone to boast they have the ‘best’ crab cakes ever. SImply not the case. Truly, my mouth has taste-tested more awful crab cakes than I should admit. However, Dewey Beach in Southern Delaware stole the crab cake show!
Order up a crab cake at Woody’s in Dewey Beach and you will love what you taste! Chunky, lump crab meat, fresh, really fresh, and not packed together with filler and breadcrumb. Rather, moist, large clumps of crab, pan-seared and presented on your choice of bread, salad or solo. So darn good!
Their drink specials and appetizers are really tasty as well. You might have to wait a little bit, and parking is not easy to find, however no matter the challenge, good food awaits at reasonable prices.
Brews ∙ Outdoor Fun ∙ Really Big Pretzels (2)
Head up to Lewes area, and go to the Crooked Hammock Brewery. Get ready for a night of fun. I suggest going with a large party it will be more fun. Kick back. Relax, you are going to wait because it is very popular and very good!
There are brews they make in house and for purchase, a huge parking lot and an outdoor area, just beckoning you to play. No, it does not matter how old you are.
From cornhole to seats, there is a comfortable spot for everyone and kids will run around and have fun here! Order the pretzel appetizer there’s plenty to split with the group. They offer great burgers as well as vegetarian eats, and I would be remiss if I did not suggest one of their ales!
Pizza Pie for Vacation Amore (3)
What vacation is complete without a pizza pie? Not mine. NO matter where we go, we make sure to find one reliable, tasty and popular pizza joint! In Rehoboth that is Grotto Pizza. Right
Set your navigation tool to 36 Rehoboth Avenue, Rehoboth Beach, DE. There you will find pizza heaven and plenty of shops. It gets really busy because the food is really that good. You will find inside and outside seating and people order it by the box and go to the beach.
You are steps away from the sand when you are at this location! Maybe you could get a pizza and watch the sunset? Or watch the moon and the kids play around on the beach at night? It’s a hopping, popular area, and the food makes it fun!
We got pizzas (lots of them) and tried them all in the name of work. YUM, is all I can really say. A great tasty, crust, with good complimenting sauces. None of the sauce tastes like brown sugar so you are sure to love it.
Pizza is fairly priced and if you don’t want to go to the one we went to, there are many more in the area. Go for the beach area, stay for the pizza pies!
Back Porch Cafe (4)
More upscale, and sophisticated eats await your very advanced palate. Service is outstanding and it is an intimate setting. There’s a ‘back porch’ you actually can eat in and we did. It’s lovely. Flowers, trees, sunshine and plenty of shade.
You will also find an inside area, with a full bar. Don’t miss the offerings which change frequently. Every dish we tried was savory and offered a brilliant mix of flavors. One thing you really want to make sure you do is to save room for dessert.
The presentation alone steals the show! Located relatively close to Grotto Pizza (aforementioned). Also, you can shop till you drop, in case there is a wait because you are in the area of all the souvenir shops!
The Tavern With Belgian Flair (5)
Want a different dining experience inside of a tavern? It’s really got some incredible interior architecture and ceilings I am still thinking about today. Good food, lovely staff, and a generous menu of dining options.
Visit for lunch or dinner, it is in Lewes, and quite convenient to Cape Henlopen State Park and the East End Lighthouse Tour. Food offerings include, allergen-friendly as well as vegetarian, making it pretty much perfect for anyone!
