How To Make A Easy Graduation Card Box
Crafting a simple graduation card holder is fat and a perfect way to hold all the graduation gift cards you will receive. The DIY for a card gift box, no matter the occasion, needs to be simple and colorful, and for high school, it should represent the school colors and, naturally, be durable for when those envelopes with cards stuffed with gifts were placed inside!
Before you start, you will want to figure out if you are going all-in on unique graduation boxes for cards or just keeping it basic. My step-by-step share is both ways because you can stop after step 1, but I didn’t! If you want to go basic, wrapping a box for card gifts for graduation is fine, but if you are reading this article, chances are you want to go all-in, so buckle up, Besty, here we go!
Step 1: Choosing the Right Box
The first step is to select a box that will serve as the base for your graduation card box. Choose a box that suits your preferences and can accommodate various sizes of cards. If possible, set aside the box a few weeks before your graduation party to ensure you have it ready.
Step 2: Shopping Tips for Your Graduation Card Box
Now it’s time to gather the materials you’ll need to create your DIY card box. Head to the Dollar Tree or similar stores and look for the following items:
- Crafters Square water-resistant vinyl: This vinyl will serve as the wrapping for your box. Make sure to select colors that match your school’s color scheme.
- Numbers on sticks will add a decorative touch to your card box.
- Selfie stick props: These props are optional but can enhance the overall look of your card box.
Step 3: Wrapping Your Graduation Card Box
Let’s start creating your graduation card box:
- Begin by cutting a slit on one side of the box to create the card slot. This will be where your guests will insert their cards and money.
- Measure and cut the vinyl to fit around the box. Peel off the backing and carefully wrap the vinyl around the box, ensuring it adheres smoothly.
- If you accidentally made the card slot cut too large, don’t worry! Use small vinyl strips to close the gap, ensuring it remains flexible enough for cards to pass through.
You can see that this DIY Card box is coming along quickly and easily. And here are the adjustments to the MOUTH of the card box from the steps above, where I am reinforcing it.
Step 4: Adding Decorative Touches
Accessorizing is my favorite part of any project as it truly separates the basic box from the unique graduations boxes for cards, so go the extra steps to stand out!
To make your graduation card box truly stand out, let’s add some decorative elements, and I am sharing those below.
- Attach the numbers on sticks to the back of the box using a hot glue gun with a COOL setting. Arrange them in a visually appealing manner.
- Cover the white sticks with additional vinyl strips to hide them and create a cohesive look.
- Add selfie stick props to personalize your card box further. Use glue to attach them securely and cover any exposed areas with additional vinyl.
Next is an optional step, but I am over-the-top with wanting something to look good, so I cut a few strips more of the vinyl and placed them on top of the white sticks that were glued on so you could not see the white of the sticks.
Since we were not sure of where we would place the box, I wanted it decent looking from ALL sides, not just the front, and that is why I chose to cover this with an extra piece of self-stick vinyl, and it was an easy and fast solution to the ugly white stick, and you can skip this step, but I did not!
Step 5: Final Touches and Personalization
To complete your graduation card box, consider adding the following finishing touches:
- Cut strips of ribbon and attach them using hot glue to create a festive and elegant look.
- Include your graduation invitation on the card box to tie in the event’s theme and highlight the gathering’s purpose.
There are many graduation card box ideas and ways to design your own; pick what feels right and go with it. It’s an easy way to show this is YOUR graduation box, and if you are combining parties with a sibling or a friend, this will help your guests with whose box is whose!
And personalizing the money card box for graduation by making it a more personalized graduation card box is just more about adding a photo or the invite, which does make it personalized and less generic by theme!

1. Do I Need a Money Card Box for Graduation?
Absolutely! A designated card box is essential for collecting graduation cards and money gifts from your friends and family. It ensures everything is organized and prevents cards from getting lost or misplaced.
2. Can I Use a Gift Bag Instead of a Card Box?

DIY Easy Graduation Gift Card Box
Crafting a simple graduation card holder is fat and a perfect way to hold all of the graduation gift cards you are about to receive.
The DIY for a card gift box no matter what the occasion, needs to be simple, colorful, and for high school, it should represent the school colors, and naturally, be durable for when those envelopes with cards stuffed with gifts were placed inside!
Before you start you will want to figure out if you are going all-in on unique graduation boxes for cards or just keeping it basic and my step-by-step share both ways because you can just stop after step 1, but I didn't!
If you just want to go basic, wrapping a box for card gifts for graduation is fine, but if you are reading this article, chances are you want to go all-in so buckle up Besty, here we go!
Materials
- Vinyl Permanent Paper (school colors)
- Box (at least 11.5" x 10" x 4")
- Numbers
- Ribbon with Year On It (Michael's Craft store Has this )
- Your Invitatation
- Led Battery Operated Lights (optional)
Tools
- Glue Gun
- Scissors
Instructions
- Figure out what box you want to use for your party and set it aside weeks before your party date. (see above for the minimum size)
- I chose a hair accessory box and I like it because it could take fat, thin, wide, and weirdly shaped cards, because everybody gifts a different kind of card, so this box was definitely a unique DIY.
- Before you do anything, cut a basic slit in the side you want to design for the mouth of the box for card gifts for graduation!
- First, decide which end or side of the box will be the 'mouth' for the money graduation gift cards, then slice that open, and don't worry if you slice a bit too big as the vinyl will take care of the open space, see mine?
- Second, you will want to place your box on the vinyl before you peel it and make sure everything fits.
- Secure those edges and add crease marks on your ends to you know how much vinyl you will need to peel.
- Once you do that, move your box, peel back a bit of vinyl, hug it tight to the edge and place your box down, continuing to peel back the vinyl as you secure the box to the sticky side of the vinyl and continue until you are done.
- If you overexaggerated the cut on the mouth of the card slot, now you can fix it.
- All you do is use small, thin strips of the vinyl and close up the area, strip by strip, as this will close it up and it will still be flexible enough that the cards can be pushed through.
- Accessorizing The Money Card Box For Graduation Matters
- Accessorizing is my favorite part of any project as it truly separates the basic box from the unique graduations boxes for cards so go the extra steps to stand out!
- Using those numbers you might have purchased, do a trial run against the back of the box and see where to place the numbers.
- Then once you are satisfied you will use your hot glue gun (I used the cool glue gun) to affix the number sticks to the back of the box.
- Next, is an optional step, but I am over-the-top with wanting something to look good, so I cut a few strips more of the vinyl and placed them on top of the white sticks that were glued on so you could not see the white of the sticks.
- Add on the selfie stick props that you love, again, attach with glue, and cover, and while this is an optional step, I really believe this brings this DIY dollar store-inspired card box for graduation cards with money gifts altogether don't you?
- Last, cut strips of the ribbon and attach them with a bit of hot glue.
Add The Final Touches on the Box For Card Gifts For Graduation
- Since it is a graduation party, I added the graduation invitation because it seems to fit the whole theme of why everyone was there, and with graduation, there are gifts!
- It's an easy way to show this is YOUR graduation box, and if you are combining parties with a sibling or a friend, this will definitely help your guests with whose is whose!
