Where Niko Travels and I had spent the day walking all over Harper’s Ferry, West Virginia, learning the area.
We climbed more stairs today than I care to admit and we definitely exceeded our goals on our fitness app!
The Harpers Ferry area is really good for an overnight trip from Pittsburgh and that is how we set our trip up.
Earlier in the day, our challenge was the weather, but once the rain passed the adventure began.
At the end of our wanderlust day, we needed to refuel our bellies.
We both love milkshakes and good food so we sought out a tavern in the area.
Now I can share with you where to find signature milkshakes and good eats in Harpers Ferry, so you can enjoy the same!
Signature Milkshakes And Good Eats In Harpers Ferry
The White Horse Tavern is super close to the rapids and Harpers Ferry National Historic Park, the Jefferson Rock, John Brown’s Fort, etc, so it was a logical choice.
We were tired and hungry and needed to eat.
For those of you looking for the best of things to do in Harpers Ferry make sure to read my article on the area.
While we were quickly in and out, the basic attractions are great or a day trip!
If however, you are hiking, rafting, etc., you will need more than a day, that I am sure!
Additionally, we needed a place that offered allergen-friendly food because Niko has severe food allergies.
Since I am a vegetarian, and I needed to find a place with nicely portioned salads and other options.
The White Horse Tavern is located inside the Clarion Inn Hotel.
We soon learned that many people that go rafting, stay here, and eat here.
Signature Milkshakes
Yeah, this is what you want to come for, so worth the trip!
I love a good milkshake, especially when I am not in a hurry and have time to just sip at it.
We had that time tonight and we found great Signature Milkshakes at the White Horse Tavern
My signature milkshake was crafted with as a Boozy Milkshakes.
Vanilla ice cream, blended with Bailey’s Irish Cream, Chocolate Chips Cookies, and Iced Coffee. Perfection from the first sip to the last.
Niko, of course, had a traditional signature milkshake and drank the whole thing, which seals the deal. It also tells me that it was delicious for kids too!
Appetizer
What is it about ordering an appetizer that always appeals to me?
I am the hungriest when I first sit down and a small portion is all I really need.
Why do I order more food then?
These appetizers all appealed to me.
However, I wanted only ONE item tonight and I wanted to keep things lighter.
I felt so good because we had been exercising all day and I did not want to trash my lifestyle accomplishments.
While I was hungry, I knew that there were a few foods on the menu I really wanted to try, and I was consuming a milkshake which is also filling.
So instead of ordering a basic meal, I did something fun.
I saw one of these go to the table behind me.
Which of course piqued my curiosity.
Then, of course, I needed to have one at my table.
But you really have to take a quick look at it to see why?
It’s cheesy and a pretzel. What a winning combination.
Rather than over order, I did an appetizer, like a small plate meal, but there was nothing small about the item I ordered.
Truly, I wish Niko could eat seafood, he would have loved this.
I ordered the Crabby Pretzels.
They are a new item on the menu and I hope they keep it on there.
Traditional soft pretzels, topped with housemade crab dip and cheese.
I definitely chose right!
Salads
As an additional component to my meal, or to round it off, I ordered a house salad.
The salad is a nice portion and filling.
Niko also got a salad.
We both agreed they were generous sizes for a side salad ‘house salad’ and would be something we would order again.
Wings – Other Great Eats In Harpers Ferry
Niko has life-threatening food allergies, but we were excited to learn that he could eat the wings here.
We simply asked our normal food prep questions and then he ordered.
From the time the plate got set down to the time the server came back, there were no wings left.
What I know from watching Niko consume these, is that they tasted good, and were not over-seasoned or underseasoned.
As a mom, I was happy to see him have foods he actually likes rather than a dish of buttered pasta.
Good Eats In Harpers Ferry
We will definitely go back to the White Horse Tavern when we are in Harpers Ferry.
The location is perfect, the staff was friendly and the food was good.
Since we always seek out places that offer allergen-friendly eats, we wanted to share this information with you in case you are in the Harpers Ferry area.
It does get busy as the destination is popular for rafting and hiking.
Plan ahead, and try to eat off the normal ‘busy’ times.
If you have to wait, the bar area is plentiful and you could always order the Crabby Pretzels. ~ Dana Xo
My thanks to the White Horse Tavern for graciously hosting us and taking such great care of Niko!
