Cracking Up For Halloween Bloodshot Eyeball Eggs.
So once boiled you gotta crack these eggs after you follow the very specific steps in the hard-boiling process and cooling process. (it’s super easy!)
Marbling Effect For the Halloween Bloodshot Eyeball Eggs
When you crack these hard-boiled soon-to-be epic Halloween bloodshot eyeball eggs, don’t WHACK it or you will ruin the shell.
Instead, you will tap and it will crack.
Let’s just say that this step is everything, you will be doing a marbling crack that will make or break your presentation.
I suggest a bamboo spoon like this one, as it is what I am partial to.
Creating the base of the true eyeball – not just the whites of the eyes!
If you followed above, you know that marbling is everything, but you also need the eyeballs to be red, I mean, it’s Halloween!
The front of the eye needs to look like one of those old-time Scooby-Doo monsters!
To get those eyeballs red I make sure to break the bottom a bit, so the red dye can puddle at the base.
Then what follows are the cracks atop the eye, making it gruesomely disgusting, and so Halloween-like.
What better than bloodshot eyes to creep everyone out, yet attract attention to the table?
Food Coloring For Bloodshot Eyeball Eggs.
Choose any brand of food coloring but if you want it to be redder, keep reading.
What I’ve found is that basic food coloring from the store is good, but the brilliant color comes from the other brands.
For the really RED color, true colors, that are magnificent, try these food-grade dyes.
More realistic, more colorful, and brilliantly bright.
Tips For The Halloween Bloodshot Eyeball Eggs
I suggest making these when you have an hour to yourself.
Rushing through these will often create issues from marbling incorrectly to not cooling enough and creating dye issues. (been there done it!)
Make as many as you need or double the batch because I will show you another way to use these Halloween eggs and it’s amazingly simple.
I have used both brown eggs and white eggs, there is no difference. Basically, an egg is an egg is an egg!

Halloween Bloodshot Eyeball Eggs
Halloween bloodshot eyeball eggs create an epic appetizer that is not only healthy but truly eye-opening and easy to make!
Step by step recipe follows.
Ingredients
- 6 Eggs
- 2 C Water
- electric pressure cooker
- Red Food Coloring
- 1/2 Tsp Vinegar
- Water 1/2 C
- 2 C Ice + 1 C Water
Instructions
- Prepare Pressure Cooker (electric)
- Place 2 C water in the base.
- Add in the slotted stand.
- Place eggs on the stand.
- Cover.
- Set to Manual, High Pressure for 5 minutes.
- It will take 5-10 minutes for this to come to the pressure level.
- Once the cooking session has ended, allow eggs to stay in the pressure cooker for an additional 5 minutes (up to 10).
- Prepare Ice Bath with water and ice in listed ingredients.
- Place eggs in the ice bath and allow them to cool for 5-10 minutes. I'd go to the 10-minute marker to ensure eggs are cooled.
- While eggs are cooling, prepare food coloring, following the directions on your package.
- Remove from the ice bath.
- Using a wooden spoon (or countertop whichever is more comfortable for you), lightly dent the egg, cracking it, but NOT cracking so hard as to REMOVE the shell, that would ruin this project.
- Do give the bottom of each egg a good tap so you can well the DYE in there.
- Next, place each of the eggs into the prepared food coloring (red).
- If using a small container as I did, do not stack more than 2.
- Preferred to use a larger bowl, so more can soak at one time.
- Allow the eggs to sit in the color each only a 1/2 at a time for controlled marbling
- Do turn them at about 15 minutes to ensure they are getting coated.
- After 30 minutes remove onto a paper towel.
- Carefully remove the shell.
- And there are your Bloodshot eyeball eggs.
- Admire your craftiness and refrigerate if you are not using it at that moment.
Notes
I suggest adding body parts to the table spread as well to add to the Halloween theming.
Always refrigerate if not serving immediately.
You can add more eggs to the recipe and pressure cooker without altering the cooking time.
