Once I made these marbled eggs, I’ve never stopped.
They are easy and the possibilities are endless.
I will say that I have made spider webs as well as bloodshot eyes and brain-looking hard-boiled marbled eggs.
While they look creepy and the egg is a hard-boiled egg with a few steps in between.
First The Pressure Cooker Hard-Boiled Eggs.
To make the Creepy Bloodshot Eyeball Eggs, you’ll need to use your electric pressure cooker.
Every time I make my Hard-Boiled Eggs in my pressure cooker they are perfection.
No cracks, no issues.
That however never happens when I use a pot on the stovetop!
Delicates Blows On The Bloodshot Eyeball Eggs.
When you whack at these eggs, you are not to really whack or you will ruin the shell.
Instead, you will tap and it will crack.
In fact, this marbling crack will make or break your presentation.
I suggest a bamboo spoon like this one, as it is what I am partial to.
To get those eyeballs red I make sure to break the bottom a bit, so the red dye can puddle at the base.
Then what follows are the cracks atop the eye, making it gruesomely disgusting, and so Halloween-like.
What better than bloodshot eyes to creep everyone out, yet attract attention to the table?
Food Coloring For Bloodshot Eyeball Eggs.
Choose any brand food coloring but if you want it to be redder, keep reading.
What I’ve found is that basic food coloring from the store is good, but the brilliant color comes from the other brands.
For the really RED color, true colors, that are magnificent, try these food-grade dyes.
More realistic, more colorful, and brilliantly bright.
Time To Get Creepified Here’s the Recipe And Instructions!
- 6 Eggs
- 2 C Water
- Instant Pot
- Red Food Coloring
- 1/2 Tsp Vinegar
- Water (1/2 C)
- 2 C Ice + 1 C Water
Prepare Pressure Cooker (electric)
Place 2 C water in the base.
Add in the slotted stand.
Place eggs on the stand.
Set to Manual, High Pressure for 5 minutes.
It will take 5-10 minutes for this to come to the pressure level.
Once the cooking session has ended, allow eggs to stay in the pressure cooker for an additional 5 minutes (up to 10).
Prepare Ice Bath with water and ice in listed ingredients.
Place eggs in the ice bath and allow them to cool for 5-10 minutes. I'd go to the 10-minute marker to ensure eggs are cooled.
While eggs are cooling, prepare food coloring, following the directions on your package.
Remove from the ice bath.
Using a wooden spoon (or countertop whichever is more comfortable for you), lightly dent the egg, cracking it, but NOT cracking so hard as to REMOVE the shell, that would ruin this project.
Do give the bottom of each egg a good tap so you can well the DYE in there.
Next, place each of the eggs into the prepared food coloring (red).
If using a small container like I did, do not stack more than 2.
Preferred to use a larger bowl, so more can soak at one time.
Allow the eggs to sit in the color for 1/2 at a time.
Do turn them at about 15 minutes to ensure they are getting coated.
After 30 minutes remove onto a paper towel.
Carefully remove the shell.
And there's your Bloodshot eye egg.
Admire your craftiness and refrigerate if you are not using it at that moment.
