What is one thing you own that loves being tramped on? Surely you answered your grass right? There is nothing like the feeling of green grass under my feet, soft, cool and allowing me to really connect with the outside. The great outdoors is calling and that means that our backyard, and side yard and front yard can’t wait to have us using them as they were meant to be, tramped on, frolicked through and of course rolled in! With the change in season comes increased outdoor time and I love this because the kids put down the electronic gaming paddles for outdoor ball paddles that zings a ping pong back and forth with a pa-ting through the air. The PlayStation games of baseball suddenly become family ball out in the yard and before you know it the grill is fired up and the whole family is together! I personally find that outdoor time creates an inner passion to stir a bit more and I find myself tinkering in the lawn, pulling more weeds from the flower beds and really maintaining much more than if I would never have stepped outside. I find that planting more flowers in my beds and nurturing my lawn to be as green and weed free as it can be all just come as a natural part of spending time outside. Lavishly living life outdoors and in the lawn and yards is inspiring, fulfilling and of course TruGreen will help you to #LiveLifeOutside.
Life has really changed over the last 10 years, in fact it has become truly digital and often we are so glued to our smartphones, computers, video games and virtual world, that we virtually get lost and spend way too much time inside and not enough outside. Creating a lawn that is beautiful inspires me to want to get outside and enjoy my yard with my kids. A thriving green, beautiful yard compels me to water, weed, create flower beds, plant more, and of course to enjoy what I am doing, connecting with the fresh air.
Now, one thing I know for certain is that family that works together, stays together, so of course, my kids drop their devices and join in on the outdoor mission to beautify and care for our yard. No, the kids don’t always want to do it at first, but I put out a ball or two and a few missile tossers and before you know it, they are helping as well as playing so family time begins with an easy transition and no forcing.
Being outdoors is not only beneficial to our mental health but our emotional health and it is important to #LiveLifeOutside because our body needs this time to reboot. For me, watching the birds nip at bread and seed we toss is amazing, while weeding or cutting in another bed takes away the stress of the virtual competitive world that I live in. I love that the kid are not peeled to the video games, they are RUNNING around, and physically moving, which increases their stamina as well as their connection with the outdoors, hopefully triggering a lasting want to be out there!
I know that I am not the only one that enjoys the outdoors because in suburbia where I live, so many of the neighbors are out cutting the lawns, edging their walkways, and planting, which then inspires chit chat between all of us, increasing community spirit. We discuss lawn and outdoor products, our lives and compliment each other on jobs well done. It is so pleasant to drive through a neighborhood that is so well maintained and it is so inspiring. The lush green lawns, the well maintained flower and tree beds, just make me feel better and smile, creating a more emotionally healthy me.
A Lawn Tip
Before sitting down in the grass or letting the kids sit in the grass, we always take a walk through the yard, and make sure there are not clumps of feces(we have so many deer, raccoon, and coyote that it is very important we do, because I don’t want that on my bare feet– ewwww!
We water either very early on in the day or very late at night, but never during the peak heat from 10-5 in order to get the most benefit out of our watering.
Finally, keep your mower blade sharp and cut the lawn regularly and before you know it your lawn will look amazing. If you want to have your backyard made-over enter here for the TruGreen Yardly Sweepstakes.
Our lawn beckons us day and night, as by day, the kids run rampant through the yard, tossing a football, shooting their play missile guns, putting golf balls an so forth. By night, we create a bonfire on many weekends and just kick back, watching the fireflies, and listening to the animals cracking branches in our woods. The great outdoors provides lasting memories that my kids will have forever and that makes me happy, as it is natural, holistic fun as a family. Here’s to chirping birds, beautiful flower beds, and green lawns as I lavishly live life out loud with TruGreen and #LiveLifeOutside.
