We planned our trip to the Outer Banks ahead of time so we could indulge in a wonderful home, but we sought out a very reliable rental firm. Seeking out a reliable rental firm is of the utmost importance because if something goes wrong while you are there, you want someone to be ‘all over it’ and personally, I prefer when most of what I need (linens, housewares, etc) That is why we decided to ascertain a rental home in the Outer Banks from Hatteras Realty by Wyndham Vacation Rentals, as they offer everything from quick service calls to awesome amenities in a beach home. Beach Houses Loaded With Amenities
We have stayed in homes that are awful and you will note, none of them are on my blog, because they were so bad, I won’t even give them the honor of a shout out. Pools not working, bathroom sinks clogged, or flooding when you walk INTO the house, trash in the home, broken washers, the list goes on and on. Make sure you have a reliable rental firm/realty that you are working with because it can haunt you if you don’t. Do you know what items you need to bring with you for vacation? Do you need to bring some pans, bowls, or serving ware? Should you be bringing linens, blankets, pillows? How much do you haul for a week or 2 weeks of fun or even a month? The more you haul, the more you have to bring back.
What is loaded and fully stocked?
When I say fully stocked, I don’t mean that the bar is loaded, or the kitchen pantry has food, think of your rental home as a shell, and inside that shell anything extra is a bonus! Not all rental homes will have the same items. Don’t plan your vacation rental based on my personal home experience, investigate your rental firms’ offerings.
From my extensive personal travel and rental experiences to date: I can honestly tell you that my best experience all around from amenities to the interior and condition of the home, has come from Hatteras Realty by Wyndham Vacation Rentals. The kitchen, the bedrooms, the fun inside and outside of the house along were enough to keep everyone busy, and that was even before unloading our car with some stuff we had brought.
The Kitchen
I have been in some lame rental home kitchens, where you are lucky to find even a skillet, but we have managed between baking things and bringing take-out to the house, rather than fussing with the lack of.. Not with Hatteras Realty by Wyndham Vacation Rentals. I was actually tickled pink when I found out that our kitchen was a fully stocked kitchen. Now fully stocked kitchen does not mean that your refrigerator is full that’s up to you nor doesn’t mean they were condiments there that’s up to us as well. Fully stocked kitchen meant: wooden spoons, slotted spoons, ladles, knives, forks, and all types of silverware as well as plastic storage containers, pizza pans, and other baking pans.
In our particular home we found so many different pots and pans for cooking it was unimaginable. We also had two microwaves, a microwave a built-in and one on the counter as well. Additionally, an oven, a Jenn-Air Stove with a good exhaust fan(no fish in the house smell), and a working dishwasher. Garbage Cans are provided, but you do need to bring can liners and empty it.
A Toaster, coffee maker, and refrigerator/freezer combos that pumped out filtered water and clean, yummy ice! This house had plenty of place-settings, which is fairly atypical of where we have stayed before, we usually ended up on paper plates. There was really nothing you needed that was not there, the owner was quite generous. Hatteras Realty makes sure EVERYTHING is cleaned up in your home so this is what happens: A small note about a refrigerator in the rental home you do want to know that on the day you arrive they have thoroughly clean these refrigerators out and when they do this they turn them off. Initially it will take almost 24 hours for that refrigerator temp that down so think about that when you’re loading the refrigerator.
Our rental had vacuums, brooms and garbage cans, and on the last day you are expected to get the trash out, as well as the recycles, and vacuum. IF you rented linens then they all need to be stripped and placed in the bathrooms. Easy stuff to complete while the others are packing up the car.
The simple things make me happy, like places to HANG your hat when you come in, so you don’t just toss it and lose it!

Things not included in our rental that you might want to bring with you
Trash bags, soap for showers, soap pumps for sinks in all the bathrooms, dish detergent, dishwasher detergent, all the basic wraps for food(Plastic, Foil, Baggies), Coffee Filters, Paper Plates, Paper Towels(1st one they give), Toilet Paper(1st roll in all bathrooms), and any cleaning supplies.
Beach Bike Rentals
Honestly with three kids and a full itinerary I did not pack bikes, because I did not feel like having issues on the highway with bikes flying:) We rented bikes from Island Cycles, as this was most effective and right across the street. The owners are so kind and helpful you will love it there and when you need to return them, it is so darn easy, we could not have asked for a better place to rent bikes, but book them ahead, we sure did, because they are BUSY!
Beach Houses Loaded With Amenities
In our home there was a basketball hoop, I am glad the boys brought their basketball or they would not have been able to play. We also were fortunate to have 2 passes to two different pools to enjoy, a washer, dryer, pool table, hot tub, 2 car ports, furniture on outside decks, multiple sliding doors, easy access to the beach, 2 outdoor showers, a grill, a hose, WiFi, and just so much more, meaning a house that is loaded with amenities. Many of the homes Hatteras Realty offers are like this, you just have to read the descriptions and ask, and you will know.
Linen packages can be purchased if you don’t choose to rent, or you can always run over and rent what you need if you forgot!
Tip: Make sure to know how many beds are in each room, so you can bring enough sheets, towels and pillowcases.
Home rental is easy, and done on line with Hatteras Rental by Wyndham Vacation Rentals. The fact the the homes offer so much in them makes it easy to pack up and take off, without worrying about the details.
